Sometimes, I feel like I’ve failed to heal “properly” because I’ve already gone on dates or because I can count the times I’ve cried over my ex on one hand. I tell myself that I’m supposed to be living on the couch, gobbling down ice cream pints, binging romance dramas, and sobbing while listening to sad music – instead of giggling over a conversation with my newest Hinge match and explaining my breakup without insults or crying. Or, on the other hand, I’m supposed to do the opposite extreme: partying, posting hot pictures on Instagram, and avoiding the uncomfortable reality of my heartbreak.

New year, new me, we’ve heard it all before. And while I seriously doubt the ability of most people to uphold a New Year’s Resolution they put in place (sorry, it’s true), I don’t doubt the ability of the never-ending trend cycle to spit out something new for us to ogle over. Here are five things I think will be “in”, and five things I think will be “out” in 2026

As an avid Letterboxd user and Instagram Reels enjoyer, I see dozens of opinions all the time. Thousands and thousands of words are posted saying why National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989) is the greatest movie ever made, how global warming isn't ‘that bad’ because it was cold today, and that Fortnite is super overrated now. However accurate, inaccurate, or immeasurable, a person’s claim might be, they, and hundreds of others on the internet, will defend it til the very end.

One thing about me and my family is that we love Christmas movies. The Thanksgiving turkey will still be warm on our plates, and we’ll be throwing on a variety of holiday movies, from the great ones to Hot Frosty.

Yes, I sat through that movie. Yes, it was as bad as it looks.

All this to say, I consider myself quite the expert when it comes to holiday-related media. So much so that I decided it’s time I fully cement it – what are the top ten Christmas movies of all time?

I am on my phone way too much. Between mindless scrolling on Instagram and Tiktok to binging YouTube, my screen time was an absolutely abysmal number that I am not proud of.

It got to a point where I found myself mindlessly checking my phone when I was hanging out with friends, even when I knew there were no notifications waiting for me.

With the new year comes an opportunity to make changes, and my number one goal was to make a significant change to the amount of time I spent glued to my phone.

Growing up my parents were always the typical strict kind - no going out after 7, no nightouts, no trips, no this, no that, and no to almost everything.

The word no had practically become a family member, considering how often it was spoken in the house. The word no sat like a third parent in our dining table.

And when I, curious and clueless, asked for a reason, they would simply say, "Oh honey, we're only trying to protect you."

Hey, does this carrot cake recipe still work if I sub out the cream cheese for mayo and the carrots for rutabagas? No? Then why did you post it? I hate carrots and I’m lactose intolerant. It’s like you didn’t even consider me at all. It’s like I’m some random person on the Internet, and you don’t know I exist. It’s like I fully have the option to just not bake this cake and keep scrolling. It’s like this recipe doesn’t revolve around me hating carrots and being lactose intolerant.
